In this paper, a hybrid static-active filter is presented as a new approach to cogging torque mitigation in PMSM drive systems. The cogging torque data acquisition process of the selected PMSM drive is explained, and the performance and theory of the static filter stage is examined as well. The design, benefits and challenges of the active filter, and the hybrid filter as a whole, is also examined, and the importance of noise reference generation, bandwidth and delays are explained through examples from the Active Noise Control (ANC) sphere.
